HOBBS COTTAGE EXTENSION - JFCA
This was a wonderful project to be involved in up on the KZN south coast. A beautiful old style family beach cottage urgently need some extra sleeping space before the December break.
The rush was on for the "family” to agree on an appropriate extension and then to find a local builder who could complete the extension in time.
The other challenge was to give a modern twist using the traditional brickwork, so we came up with this picture window which subtly give them the twist they wanted.

POD EXTENSION TO HOUSE - JFCA
I was approached by a client to look at options of creating a first floor en-suite bedroom and studio space.
The tricky location and main walls of the existing house lent itself to the possibility of the extension being prefabricated. Either as a kit of parts or maybe as “pods”.
These could then be built off site and then brought to site and erected quickly thus reducing the construction.

NEW PROVIDENCE WHARF - SOM
I was in charge of compliance, detail design and services coordination for this 555 apartment residential development on the Thames. The building was set out on a series of varying curves raising from 9 to 16 floors. The site was once owned by the Dutch East India Company which gave it historical significance, but subsequent owners over the years had left the site contaminated. This led to a thin void being created under the entire building with discretely placed vents allowing gases to escape.

FLEET PLACE HOUSE - SOM
This was a wonderfully challenging project right in the heart of London, as an associate with the legendary American practice SOM.
The two standout features of this building were that it was isolated on scores of rubber pads sitting over railway tracks, and the expressed steel structure.
Detailing and weather protecting such a building forces you to detail to the next level, particularly as all the neighbours seemed to be lawyers.

ROYAL PALACE - RMJM
A day after arriving in Dubai, I was busy researching and preparing glass reinforced concrete façade cladding details to provide this palace with a face lift. This included determining the size of each panel, how they would be fixed and fitted together.

GEORGIAN TOWN HOUSE RESTORATION - RUNDELL ASSOCIATES
I was project architect and QS for this high-end development for the extension, conversion and restoration of a six-story Georgian townhouse and mews building back into a private residence. Traditional artisans were used to match the existing plaster cornices and metalwork features while modern interventions, set within period features, made the house design exceptional.

HARBOUR BRIDGE - GAPP
As project architect, my main role was detail design and services coordination for this elegant residential and serviced apartment development which straddles the foreshore canal. Particular attention was given to working adjacent to the canal as well as a train track on the north side of the site.

BUITENGRACHT PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE - GAPP
GAPP worked closely with the lead structural designers on this landmark bridge commissioned by the Western Cape government for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Many people pass under as they enter Cape Town as well as pass over as they link to the Waterfront.
As associate with GAPP, my role was to advise on detailing, finishes and compliance for the bridge and work with any affected parties.
